has overdrive as that would require a 4th gear. I think you'll have to get a newer tranny and I don't know much about them or if any of them will bolt to an FE engine. Ken Collins (kennethl6@prodigy.net) would know.
I don't think there are any automatic transmission out there that will bolt to an FE engine - I checked on the ford truck automatics and the newer models do not fit. Which leaves a fella with three choices - 1. stay with what you have and try to find the right gear ratio for your needs, 2. convert your truck to a 429/460 motor where OD autos are available (I like my 390), 3. or go with the gear vendor types units (as stated, big $). I chose #1 because I think I can get what I need without making major changes or spending major $. I know there are manuals out there that will work, Clark 5 speed, but I could not find one and it would still leave me with all that shifting.
I quit investigating when I found that it would mean an engine conversion. I like the gear vendor option but last I checked it was about $2400. It would take a lot of miles to pay for itself.
The AOD is based on the weaker C4 or C5 transmission, I can't remember which. The E4OD seems to be similar in design to the C6 and some parts interchange. My C6 wide ratio gearset came from an E4OD. Gear vendor units are available on eBay occasionally. I paid less than $500 for mine.
