does the K&N FIPK kit actually help or is it a waste of money? we have an 03 expedition 5.4. to me it sounds like the damn thing bogs down because it runs so low in overdrive and when you increase the speed it seems to me it bogs down? maybe its because im not used to driving a 45,000SUV with OD HAHA who knows what do ya think?
They do tend to keep that engine at low RPM in an attempt to increase mileage, but it has a lot of low end torque, so should pull out without bogging. Some people do feel that the K&N helps, but I seriously doubt that any low end improvement over a clean paper element would be noticeable; certainly not cost-effective.
Better throttle response and the induction of cooler air for more horsepower will be your biggest gains with a new air intake. I have found there to be quite a difference in response with mine. Not everyone likes them but I definitely do. There are quite a few manufacturers of intakes so just do some research. I have an FIPK but it was a really good buy.
Just out of curiousity, how does the K&N FIPK provide cooler air? Our stock intakes already take in outside air from the fender. And it would seem that the throttle body (downstream) would pretty much control throttle response, particularly at low RPM.
Not trying to start a fight, just want to learn from other experiences.

No problem, I should clarify that it provides more cold air. Depending on which generation of FIPK you have, the cold air box included is larger than the stock box. The intake is not the only addition you should have. A Superchip is a must for any real horsepower gain.
