I'm having a whinning sound coming from the rear while I'm accelerating and holding at that speed. It can be at any speed as well. but as soon as I take my foot off the pedal as in for instance, going downhill, it stops!!! Has anyone noticed of experienced this problem?

I have the same whining noise too. Can't exactly tell where it is coming from (front/rear)... but it is definitely noticeable during slight exceleration. At first I blamed the tires but noticed as soon as you take you foot off the gas the whine goes away. Anyone else?
Morris, Does yours get louder as speed increases? I noticed in the 04 F150 threads, the topic was on rear axle whine. I'm wondering if they are experiencing the same conditions in the truck as with any of Fords larger vehicles. I'll try to see if I can locate the actual thread and get back with info. I'm waiting for my 04 F150 Lariat to be delivered in July, I'm hoping I don't have the same problem with it!!!

I had a similar problem on my 2003 Expedition XLT 5.4L 4x4. However, I would get the whining noise when cruising between 35 - 45 mph, and then on slow down from 30 - 0 MPH. At first, I thought it was the tires and the tire pressure, but that was not it. I ran a test and put the truck in 4x4 high on a smooth surface and the whining noise went away. Switched it back to 4x2 and the noise was there again. My father's a tech at the Ford dealer so we were able to find out that that the whining noise was cause by the front tires were rolling faster the rear tires or something to that effect. A pin needed to be replaced in transmission or transfer case and that took care of the problem...
I have a 2003 eb 4x2. Had the churn in the rear at low speed turns, and the dealer replaced I believe the clutch pack in the rear. After that I had the whine in the rear when accelerating from 30mph up. The dealer then replaced the entire rear. Now I am back to the churn at low speed turns. I have appr. 19000 mls. and will probably wait a bit to repair the rear again to see if anything else goes wrong. I love the truck, but the amt of repairs is wearing on my patience.
I have a 2002 Explorer that I brought in yesterday for the whining in the rear inbetween 45-69 but only when i apply gas, they called me back yesterday and told me they heard it and they are looking into what it is. They said they will find out whats wrong today and order the parts and call me and let me know. I'll let you know what i find out later on today.
Same here, 04 Expy 4X2, same thought process on problem. THought it was the tires also, but realized it happened when accelerating at highway speeds. Then stopped after removing foot from pedal. Might have time on Friday 06/04/04 to check it out.
My 04 EB is going in the shop for the same thing. Had the rear end rebuilt at 2K; now have 9K. Whine is heard between 50 and 55 mph. Does Ford have a TSB on this problem?

I've been to the TSB site and have not seen anything reported on problem. I'm sure more people have this problem, they just haven't noticed it yet.
