Lori Pelzel My od light just started flashing and when i depress the button on the gearshift does nothing still flashes. whats going on??Could it just be the switch???
I had the same problem on my 95 EB.
I also noticed that the engine RPMs were jumping around a few hundred when the O/D started to flash.
I took it to the dealer and they found the the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) was bad. The sensor fails in a way that simulates intermittent full throttle to the transmission. This was causing the torque converter to unlock/lock repeatedly.
The sensor is $50 and it is aboslutely the simplest component to replace. It is right on top of the engine and one of the first things you see when you open the hood. There is a test procedure for the TPS if you are unsure.
The O/D light flashing means that your eec-iv computer has registered a transmission related error. This error code is stored in the computer and can be read out by using a code reader or a simple jumper wire and counting flashes on the check engine lamp (MAL).
If your transmission feels ok and you dont remember anything wierd happening, then you can "reset" the computer by pulling the + terminal off your battery for about 5 minutes. This will also reset the cars driving characteristics however.
You can also reset the computer using a jumper wire under the hood.
If you are interested in using the jumper wire to read the codes. then E-Mail me at carlt@tec-system.com and I will send you detailed instructions.
"I hope you have been having you tranny fluid flushed regularly"
Yes. It's 'been flushed. I have a code reader and the new code it gave me today after the od light was 513. Which I believe is somethhing to do with the pcm. Hopefully it just needs reset. Thanks for your help..Lori Pelzel
