need help,,w/power window problem on 1992 Explorer
Hi all, has anyone else had power window problems and can share their findings and solutions tips besides DeagleDave ?? My driver side window will not go up or down without my help to physically pull down or push up while driving the motor up or down. The motor is fine,,, but something in the gearing seems to be slipping. so what is the fix and what will I have to do to make a repair?? any further help and insight into what it takes to do the repair will be appreciated. I had the same problem on my 91 explorer . pull the window motor and take the cover off the gear you will find some broken plastin in in clean it out get litho grease and 3 5/16 nuts , put the grease inn the cam inside the motor, set the bolts in and then set the gear back in , put the motor back on and it should work fine . iknow it sounds silly using the nuts in there but it`s alot easier than replacing plastic bushings every 2 or 3 years when they wear out .

thanks for the feedback Drpepper. Do I have to worry about the 5/16 inch nuts damaging the plastic gears or anything else ? the orginal pieces were made of nylon or some plastic material right? are their other options instead of a hard material like the steel nut you suggested? LJ in TX

that`s about the only option there is short of buying a new motor , the outter gear should be fine, and the nuts won`t damage the gear . My explorer has all four windows repaired like that and has been that way for 3 years and no problems. good luck

I have the same problem with my 92 Ford Explorer on the driver rear side. It happened a week ago and I've pulled the panel off and the motor works fine. The cables are loose, but not broken so I'm thinking it's some type of gear problem. Does anyone have instructions on getting the motor assembly out and then once the gears are replaced putting everything all back together again.

How do you get the motor or assembly out of the rear door? I can get to 2 screws, but not the third. Do I have to drill the rivets and remove everything?
