broken egr tube
Hello;
While replacing the valve cover gaskets on my 1989 f150,302 engine,I broke the egr tube,where the tube from the egr valve goes to the flex part.Right now I have a pipe reducer connecting the two ends and it is a whole lot quieter than it was.I was wondering if there was some kind of a hose I could use to connect the two ends,to make it a permanent fix,without buying a new egr tube.I don't want to have to take the upper intake off again,just to fix a broken tube.Any ideas would be appreciated.Thanks in advance for you help. Jack

I'm pretty sure he talking about he tube that goes from the bottom of the ERG to the head. The newer 302 used that instead of pipes going into each runner of the exhaust.
I cracked mine what i chagned my ERG valve. I was going to weld the crack, but i just got a new pipe instead. Cost about 120$
It was a ripe off, but what can you do.

Felske is quite right about how the egr tube runs under the upper intake.$120 is a lot of money just for a tube.It must be a dealer item only.After driving to work yesterday.a distance of about 15 miles,I felt the egr tube and it wasn't really what you would call hot.Why can't I just put a rubber hose and two clamps there for a connector?Jack

Same thing happened to me. 302s you do have to take the upper off, at least I did.
I just cut the flexible area of the EGR tube off and replaced it with some high-temp hose. So far so good, and it should last pretty good seeing as it comes from the intake manifold. If it was one of the other styles of EGR tubes coming directly off the exhaust, I'd be timid - although a buddy has put 85k miles and 6 years on his Mustang with rubber hose on the EGR.
