[QUOTE=wildcat421]The truck is back and better than ever I might add. The diesel doc was able to trace the problem of my surging to the VGT sensor and the EBP sensor. QUOTE]
What is the VGT sensor?
I talked to an old friend last night, and as we caught up on old times I knew we'd get into a Chevy/Ford "discussion". Anyway, one of his contractors has had big problems with surging on his '03s. I tried pointing him to this site, of course, but really I need to pass some words of wisdom on to his contractor. If he asks me what a VGT sensor is I'm going to look like an idiot.
I'll be up there to visit in a couple weeks. I wasn't going to take the truck, but now I think I just might. I might have to show him that yeah, some of them really do run pretty good.
Of course, he had to tell me about the bullet-proof duramaxes he's seen up there - I expected as much. Just 'cuz he's a die-hard chevy guy doesn't affect our friendship.
Hey Black1 , I'm not even sure if I know what it is. I believe the VGT sensor is what controls the turbo. Correct me if I'm wrong guys! I believe the tech said that he had to control the pid's and monitor the VGT to see if he could get the surging to change. uh! do the what to the who to see the whatchamacallit?!?!?!?!?!? I'm glad there are diesel techs out there. Because I was lost. None the less he did what he said and found the VGT sensor and EBP sensor (exhaust back pressure) to be faulty. As far as the D-max are , I test drove them and there was no comparison. This also proved to be true during my first chevy stop light meeting. He said "Is that the new 6.0. Lets see what she has." I simply brake torqued the truck allowing my tire smoke to conveniently blow right into his short little d-max match box truck. After that he didnt even leave the line on the green. HE he he he. I love my truck.

In addition. The vgt sensor controls the turbo by reports from several other sensors that report to the VGT sensor. When one of the other sensors are faulty the VGT cannot perform correctly because of the false information from the other sensors.Does this make sense because I am now confused and dont even know what I just said. Somebody with more tech knowledge please help me explain.
VGT= Variable Geometry Turbocharger. during low speeds there isn't as much exhaust so the vanes close to force the exhaust throught the turbine wheel at a higher velocity. Think of a water nozzle that you turn to create more pressure. Such is the roll of the variable vanes. With wide open throttle (WOT) the vanes open all the way to allow as much exhaust through as possible.
It's really not the turbo "blades" that are variable....
it's more or less "louvers" on the side of the turbo that adjust....
Make sense ??? Like the registers your central a/c comes out of in your house o(or your truck !)
