I wouldn't, we put a 6.9 with 70,000Km on it in a truck in march I think and it runs around 3200 most of the time, it was really nice when we put it in, now it eats 2 or 3 Litres of oil every 2 weeks.
If you look at the in dash tach, it turns yellow backround at 3300.
It turns red backround at 3800.
My 6.9 was up against the governor at 3300.
My 7.3 turbo is still pulling at 3600.
That Dodge that thought he was gonna run me outta gears at 84 got a big surprise at 105 MPH.
I heard a story a while back that I can not confirm. But here it is.
The original 6.9 was designed by Caterpillar for a military contract.
It was designed to turn 4400 RPM.
Detroit Diesel was working against Cat for the contract.
Detroit Diesel won the contract.
Cat threw the design on the shelf and it stayed there till International was looking for a medium duty diesel engine.
They bought the design off of Cat and produced the motor.
What we have in our trucks is the International version of that motor.
Have no idea how true this is, or how much International changed the original design.
