I'm going to put the rear end from the '81 into the bronco.
Are the front ratios close enough to do this?
If they are not is it easier to swap the dana center section or the whole front axle?
I don't have alot of special tools

Well the front gears are a 3.54 and the rear gears are a 3.50. For them to work they need to be within 1% of eachother...which they are...but it's not the best combination. It'll work though, not worth it to change them out or replace it with something else.
As far as I know, Dana never made a 3.50 gearset for the 44. 3.54 in front and 3.50 rear is what Ford sold in new trucks with a Ford 9inch and Dana 44 combination.

it's odd that the dana tag from the 81 f50 would say 3.50
I guess if it is close enough I'll put the 3.50 9" rear end in the bronco.

Dana 44 had 3.50 gear sets. Wit's the 8.8 rear that came in the 80's that didn't hae the 3.50 ratio.
