I have a 1995 Explorer and the other day when I turned on the AC, the AC went on for a few minutes then the Blower Stopped. I check the fuses in the panel and the larger fuse under the hood all were good. Any ideas, Auto Parts dealer said it may be the Blower Motor Relay but he could not locate in the Explorer.
Does the blower work when you set the fan speed to hi? If so, then it's your resistor that's causing the problem. If you have the electronic climate control, then the blower motor controller is at fault. The resister apply only to Explorers with manual AC and it costs around $15 at the dealer. The blower motor controller is $120.
I had the same problem on my 94 explorer. I disconnected the wire going into the side of the blower motor and reconnected, and removed and replaced the blower relay just behind the battery. Do not know which , but the blower started to work again. I went back to all the relays and and cleaned the contacts.
This limiter (mounted on a card) may be located just to the right of the blower motor. It is mounted with two screws. Just look for a electrical plug mounted to the right of the motor. Remove the two screws and pull it out, the card is there.
ok fix the blower problem today put a new one in from canadian tire cost $44.If you use used parts make sure they are good. I put in two used ones damithad to get a new one
I've had this in my 93 Explorer. It was the realy. It is located in the fuse box in the ENGINE compartment...NOT in the interior. After a while, relays start to get fatiqued...they only have a limited life span. After being actualted so many times, they simply give up. But that would probably be the cheapest and easiest thing to try first (well, OK, second after fuses).
The blower in my '96 quit at 105000 miles. I thought it would be the relay, fuse, resistors, etc. Subscribed to alldata diy to get wiring diagram. Somewhat surprisingly, I traced the problem down to the blower motor itself.
It's easy to pull the connector off the blower motor and check the winding resistance with an ohmmeter. If the motor has a high (infinite) resistance, it is dead, and you can stop troubleshooting there. You can order a new one from autozone and get it UPS for around $50.00. No need to pay $110 plus at the dealer. The motor is made by Siemens in Mexico.
It looks like the design has been changed slightly from the original, possibly to enhance cooling of the motor.
