When building tis 390 I have heard that adjustable rockers are the way to go. What is available other than the Crower or Doves? They seem pretty salty for my wallet.
I run the factory adjustables. They are extremely strong. The stock shafts will fail long before the rockers will. This is the first place to upgrade. The stock stands are weak also. That is the second place. The stock non-adjustable rockers are very strong also but they have no place in the performance world. You need to have some adjustment there. The non-adjustable pushrods are weaker also. The erson setup is awesome!
They just had the rockers with the adjusters. I had to purchase the stands and shaft separately from dsc but total out of pocket expense was about 425.00 so not too bad. Only thing I didnt purchase was end stands.
if you don't have a big cam i wouldn't worry about it, but if you have a bigger cam i would think about getting them, i've seen them shafts break, not a pretty sight !
My cam has alot of duration 307, but my lift is only .510 but it has a real choppy idle and I have a hard time getting it to idle when in gear. I read in another post about hooking up the advance directly to the manifold instead of through the carb. I will try it.
you should be eright then ! i have 588 lift, i guess i needed them or snap !!!! if you have it to full time vacuum it will help it idle better, i had to do that to my monte.
I ran a melling Hydraulic cam in a Rat motor years ago that was 308 Dur. and only .515 lift .. and I couldnt get it to Idle less than 1000rpm..and when I dropped it in gear the tires would chirp and the motor would die..
needless to say out came the converter...and in went a 2800 stall...
