From what I have seen and read, the 302 heads have a "cross-over" pipe between the heads with a valve. There is a hose from the valve to the air pump.
I have a Canadian '83 F100 with the original 302 but no cross-over pipe between the heads. The hose from the air pump goes to a valve the is attached to the right exhaust manifold. In addition there were no cats on it.
Is this emissions setup typical of Canadian 302's?
Sounds like your truck had the leaded fuel prep package. This was avalable in Canada until the repective engines went EFI. There should be no "unleaded fuel only" decals on the fuel doors, and the instrument cluster shouldn't say it either. In addition, the emissions sticker(if you still have it) will have Non-Catalyst on it.
300 trucks even came sans air pump and EGR valve...
If your truck doesn't have non-catalyst written all over it, someone along the lines has deleted the emissions system.
I just checked my truck and it does have the Catalyst on the emissions sticker... guess the Cat was removed before I bought it 8 years ago from the original owner. There is "unleaded fuel only" warning on the dash.
You do know that the crossover pipe usually can't be seen because it's on ther back of the heads (next to the firexall) just above the bell housing connection.
Nah, nothing truly unique, heads were probably re-done at some point, and, the AIR passages plugged off, or, you may have a swapped in older engine, there are MANY possible explinations with a truck that's 21 years old
I have a 302 as well and am Canadian. I have looked for what you are talking about but can't see it. Maybe I am blind? Do you have any pictures of it? Although, mine is an 85 302 that is Fuel-injected....different maybe?
Same thing..I'll send you a picture from the factory book. Be happy that you don't have one. It's where the air pump hooks into the exhaust through the back of the head. The damn things always rust out and cause a very loud and iritating exhaust leak.
I dont know about Canadia...but there is a special mexican 302 I guess...last night at autozone I asked for an air filter and the guy hit 302 MEX instead of 302 EFI...

Can you send me a picture? Yeah I know what you mean about rusting out. It is a pain to weld the peices back together. My dealer didn't have any reference to my configuration to order rplacemment parts. All they showed is the set up with the cross connect between the heads. Any info you can give me will help.
