360block

I have a 360 block with a 352 cast in the front of the engine and the sides of the block above the oil pan has raised ribs cast in the block. I also have a 1976 360 with the same numbers cast in the block but the sides of the block are smooth. My question; is there a preferred block in the 360-390 line-up? I'm going to make a 390 out of one of these. Thanks Cliff
