Okay, I changed out my pump today. It was noisy and leaking a little. The pressure line had a seepage area around the hose crimp, so I replaced that too.
Now I can't seem to get the air out of the system. When I turn off the motor it is foamy, then the foam goes down bubbles form like soapy water on a tire leak.
I have suspition that the air is comming from the new prssure line. The tag on the hose stated to torque to 14 Lbs and that the metal line would still turn inside the compression nut. And it does, is this normal? I put a little more torque on the nut because I suspect this is were the problem is.
The fluid leak is gone but the pump is louder than the original
Yep, Turned to stop 5 times each way with engine on. Instructions with pump said to lift front end off ground and with motor off turn to stops twenty times. I did that and got a big burp on the second turn. Drove around the block, took the cap off and it's still foamy.
The power steering is working fine it's just loud as hell! The instructions said to give it a 500 mile/30 day break in period. I just don't want to ruin a new pump. Is a little air going to hurt it?
The bottom line is Ford pumps suck. If you get a good one, it's worth it's weight in gold. I recently attempted to get rid of the power steering whine on my 93 F350 4x4. After trying 2 used pumps and 2 rebuilt ones (one a high dollar unit from a reputable manufucturer) I gave up. I had seen references to some people adapting Saginaw pumps to work on the Ford. Since I own a pretty well equipped machine shop I decided to give it a try. I built an adapter, modified a pulley, and cut a small chunk out the aluminum PS bracket to clear the Saginaw reservoir. Results: Perfectly quiet PS now. I'm happy. Sorry, but it's doubtful you'll ever achieve what your looking (or listening) for with the Ford pump.

Yea, I know they are noisy. Mine was leaking a little bit and I can't stand leaky anythings. So it gave me an excuse to put a new one in.
I finaly got the air out and it quieted it down a lot, but it is just as loud as the original. I'll live with it I guess. Unless I find a Saginaw real cheap. But then I would have to figure out how to mount it. You have any pics of yours?
I can send you some pics if you likebut you won't be able to tell much. The adapter isn't visible. Saginaw pumps can be had cheap. I had 3 laying around to choose from.
