Looking for timing marks
I have a 65 F250 and it is my first vehicle where the timing is not set by a computer. I am trying to check it because the truck sounds like it starts hard. Someone told me this could be from too much timing advance. I went to check the timing but I think the tab with the marks on it is not there. Is there any way to get around this or find one.

The tab mounted to the timing cover will not have the marks on it, that is strictly the pointer. the timing marks are located on the harmonic balancer. Since you have not done this before, I would take the time to clean off the balancer and locate your morks before jumping into the setting of the timing.

in the second picture down, you can see the balancer and the tab. your balance won't look quite like this but it should help you find it.
