I know I'm 66fdtrucknut but my other truck is 69' F-100 ranger with a 300 6 cyl.
I just got this truck recently and checking the timing. I marked the crankshaft pulley and cleaned the metal plate (on the block) & marked where I needed to go. Put the light on it ...no mark anywhere, upon inspection of the timing chain cover I found another set of timing marks. I hit it with light & it appeared to be in time with those marks. Is that right? I've never seen that before. I know someone here knows more about this than me. any help apprec.
Assuming that your 69 300 is original, that "timing chain cover" does have the correct marks on it. You do not have a timing chain, FWIW -- the 240 and 300 have gears!! Be aware -- a lot of old balancers have gotten old and the rubber is cracked and loose -- if it spins a little, the timing mark will be off, or so I have heard.
I take it that you have some other sort of engine in the 66 -- welcome to the world of inline sixes. They (240 and 300) are a tough engine with good torque and longevity. A practical engine. Have fun........
Thanks for replying, The truck seems to run fine. I was just confused on the different sets of marks and which one to use. My 66' has a 352 and won't be seeing the road for a long time. thanks again cd
