What I am asking is like beating an dead horse, grasping at straws or spitting into the wind. Has anyone had success adding mpg by just up grading the air flow (Filter, Exhaust etc...). I don't want to invest in a Banks system or new power chips. These trucks w/V10's are on the verge of being dinasoars.
with the understanding that most of us didn't buy them for their gas mileage :-)
(after all, what were you're expectations of mpg out of a 10 cylinder power house?)
some things CAN be done to improve them...
the obvious first...
keep it in excellent tune... change fluids on regular basis, do all the "standard" mtce...
check tire pressure and bump it up a bit until it gets too harsh a ride...
(I went with 9 way adjustable shocks so I could set them soft and the tires harder)
but the best no cost mod is your right foot :-) obvious point # 3
Intake and exhaust ARE helpful with mpg if not used all the time(see right foot issue)
and the right chip actually CAN help !
good luck...
but don't buy into the "I'll trade it in on a hybrid and save money" thought...
you end up throwing away SO much money on the trade you could have bought gas for the NICE bigun for a very long time...
false economy at it's finest... no matter WHAT Hollywood would have you think :-)

Eh? pls explain. The modular OHC V10 is the most advanced engine out of the big three. No kidding it does'nt get good mileage, but you had to have an idea of that before buying right?

I should have put the money into a jar and buried it.
I traded in the 5.4 Expedition for this F-250 V-10 and am getting .3 MPG less +/-, and am enjoying the ride 10 fold. 10.0 city and 15.9 hwy. I like those numbers, considering the power plant under the hood.
If you spend $100 on and air kit to get .1 mpg better how long do you think it will take to pay for the kit? You can not chase MPG with money, there is never a return.

Thanks
LOL! I don't know what to tell you to make you feel any better. Fuel economy is not going to happen with a big truck and a big gas engine. Take a look at your needs and be careful before unloading that truck. A several thousand dollar loss could buy a lot of gasoline. when you calculate the delta between what you are paying vs what you think you should be paying divided into the loss you could have...
