Will steering gearbox's from newer f150, say 92-96, fit on my 2wd 85 f150? And are there any differences between the 4wd's and the 2wd's gearboxes. I found a junkyard in Omaha that has a bunch on hand from mid ninety's trucks for what I consider a reasonable prices, compared to new prices.
I'd ask in the steering and suspension forum but it seems that all those guys talk about are putting on bigger tires and lifting their trucks and it takes longer to get a response there.
Looks to me like they are the same!! I had a 2WD and 4WD 84 F150 and they were identical. I just looked at a box for an 85 and 95 F150 on Advance Auto Parts website and they both use the same part number steering box. I use their site a lot to cross over parts to see what will fit from one year to the next...but I end up buying a lot of stuff there too!
I believe they are the same but 1985 and 1991 and $50 to your door in NE.
How long has the one from the '91 been sitting. I don't want one that leaks because the seals are dried out.
I'm not trying to dog your parts or nothin', I just never have any luck buying anything used off the internet, stuff is never in the shape I want it to be.
Maybe 3 months. It is still on the frame hooked up. It should not be dry at all. The fluid is still in it. All I can tell you I checked it for play when I started parting out the truck and when I pulled the engine the PS res. was full indicating that it was not leaking.

Zieg, give me a couple of days to figure out what I want to do. My steerings a bit loose and I'm not sure where. I think it's the gearbox, but at the moment, I don't have anyone to move my steering wheel while I watch everything to see exactly where my problem is. I am interested in your offer though.
There is a little slop in the link that runs from the steering wheel to the gearbox up and down by the firewall, but not when I move the steering wheel back and forth. Not sure what to make of that. I'll get back with you.
