pls help w/ 302 AOD shift problems

<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --> I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas - I'm at my wits end with this truck and I need it badly for work! Is there something I'm missing that's right under my nose or what...??!!!!!

1988 F250
302
AOD
has no shift solenoid
has no vacuum lines to tranny

After working on it, I now have it running well but it won't shift gears. It starts in second and revs to redline without shifting. I am getting a 12 and 44 error code.

It all started when the truck lost 3rd and OD, then the tranny had a melt down. I replaced the tranny, torqe converter and flushed the system. The
same problem is there - no 3rd or OD. I adjusted the TV cable, put in a new speed sensor, TP sensor, adjusted the linkage and set the timing. I'm pretty sure the oxygen sensor is bad, but I haven't replaced it yet because
at this point I'm lost and don't want to waste more money until I know I have to!

Any help I can get is greatly appreciated!

Thanks much,
Mark

The AOD TV cable and RPM's control the shift unlike Vaccum mod. on a C6. You've got tto adjust the shift cable right or it'll toast the AOD quick

Thanks. I did work with the shift cable but I'll do some more with it. I don't know a lot about the shift linkage, either, but I think I should take another look at that, too.

Any advice for me there?

Mark

I don't know much about the AOD since everything I own with a auto is used offroad so I run a C6.

Just by watching and reading people set the TV cable on these. If you don't get it right the tranny can blow within a mile of use.

Your best bet maybe to have a tranny shop set the cable up or ask them about how to set it. Hopefully someone who knows more about the AOD then I will post soon.

I was reading into setting it, and apparently I should have made sure it
was in neutral. I didn't do that on either settings. I'm going to try that
next and hopefully I haven't trashed it already. I've been talking with the
best tranny shop within 100 miles (they replaced my wife's '98 dodge caravan tranny last year) and they were stumped as to why it wasn't working. I've
also been talking with the various mechanic/parts people around town and
they didn't have any ideas either. However, I didn't mention exactly how
I was trying to set it. I tried to find a replacment TV cable but apparently they aren't available ... at least Kragen and Napa don't carry them.

Either we're all idiots around here, or it's one of those things that just doesn't work right when you need it to most! (or I'm just missing something that's right under my nose again!)

Again, any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark
