I recently purchased an F250 for $8600 with 172k miles. I thought it would be a good deal as long as the maintenance was kept up on it. It appeared to have been kept up very well. I drove it for aprox. 2 weeks and hooked my 8k lb 5th wheel up to it and drove about 6 miles and it started dumping transmission fluid. I fugure it was simply time to go. I now have it in the dealership at the tune of 3200 for a rebuilt transmission.
My question is.
Did I buy a lemon?
Can I expect to get some life out of this truck or was it a bad decision?
The 7.3L Diesle engine seems to be pretty sound.
I expect to pull my 8k lb 5th wheel about 6 or 8 times a year.
Another concern I have is the rear-end (differential). Are there any issues with this model concenring this?
Well, I looked at the maintenance history for the truck and found that they had a new transmission at 50k miles so I assume that the existing trany has 120k miles on it.. probly time for a new one anyway. The new one will have a 3yr/36k mile warranty so I guess I got that atleast. The truck originally listed for 12,995 so I just figure I payed full price when you add the 3200 to the 8600 i paid for it. I don't feel so bad.
