I just put my beautiful new 392W into my 65 and I went to hook up the heater hoses and realized that I don't know which is the inlet side. The heater core pipes are side-by-side on the passenger side firewall. I assume that the heat control valve goes on the inlet side. I wish I had taken a picture or drawn a picture or something smart like that. Please help a foolish traveler oh wise ones...............
Generally, the water enters from the bottom. This helps to push out air. The control valve goes inline of the inlet hose. IE stop the heated water before it enters the core.
The heater hoses on my 65 are side by side. The hose closest to the fender goes to the inlet side of thermostate (closest to radiator) and the hose closest to the engine goes to the fitting aft of the thermostate.
I am not sure it matters. I have the 65 "fresh air" heater as well. I recall it being laid out "logically" in all the pictures I have ever seen. Namely, there are a couple of hose "hold downs" on the inner fenders. Run your hoses so that they don't need to criss cross anywhere, and put the valve in the line that comes off port that comes off the top of the water pump.
Heater?
What's a heater?
My '65 has a **** that says HEATER. But I don't believe it. The fan blows different speeds. But it's still cold in the winter.
What about the lower *****, below the dash? The dash **** only turns the fan on, and pulling it diverts air from low, up to the defrost, as far as I know. I think the bottom two, one runs the water valve in the engine compartment and the other opens up the heater for fresh air from the outside.
My 65 is in the shop again, so I cannot go look for you. Above is by memory, perhaps if I am wrong someone will correct me.
Yeah. It is warm now.
My water valve is under the hood and the defroster diverter is just a handle in the duct. But during the winter, it just doesn't make alot of heat.
Just a tip for those who may be in need later, If you want to figure out which line is the lower and which is the upper, without pulling the unit from under the dash.
Run some water into the core, either opening will do. Remove the water hose and watch which tube runs water out of the core. This is the bottom (inlet) and the other in the top (outlet).
No matter which one you put water from the garden hose in, only one will let water flow back out of the core. This is always the lower connection.
