Anyone else have Ranger emblems that they've acetoned? Cuz I tried my original ones and came up with results like what 99XLT4.04x4 described above and my Ranger is a 93. So if anyone with a new Ranger has done theirs and had success, I'd love to hear about it!
Rough the emblems up with some fine sand paper, spray them with Duplicolor self etching primer, then follow up with Duplicolor chrome bumper paint. I have seen a Ranger plastic "honeycomb" grill done like that, and you can't tell its not chrome. It really does look great! Here is a link to the site, it shows alot of nice looking projects.

PW01, I'm gonna buy those new emblems (because I messed up the old ones by soaking them in acetone) and I'll try some scratch tests to see if the black paint does in fact come off. If not, I won't bother acetoning but will go with your method. I appreciate the help!
And still, if any Ranger owners out there have acetoned their emblems, please talk to me about it!!
Some of the 99's came with painted F350 emblems. If the F350 part is chrome, the whole emblem is chrome. 99 F350 XL 2wd del truck at work has 1 painted F350 emblem and 1 chrome F350 XL emblem

I dont know what kind of acitone you guys have but the stuff here did nothing for me. What about paint remover? Are you guys scraping it also? I didnt want to scratch the chrome under it. I know its chrome under there, cause I took a razor and scratched a small piece off, But that route would take 40 days and 40 nights..............Thanks
Just acitone and Qtips. It may take a little bit to get it started.
Ok, I tried again with Laquer thinner, and that didnt work either. What do the painted ones mentioned earlier look like? Do they have chrome 350, but baked on black behind it? Im kinda stumped here
The 350 is painted silver and the part of the emblem where it would say XL or XLT is missing. The other side has the std F350 emblem with the XL on it, but the 350 is chrome
I went to the local paint store and bought acetone in a metal can right off the shelf. worked great. Q-tips, paper towels and blue painters tape to mask it all off. Took about an hour an emblem.
I cheated. I bought 2 new badges, acetoned them on the bench and then stuck them on. I took the old ones off with a heat gun. Total time 20 min, both sides. 2 new badges $30.00
