You can never have too much HP in the mud when you're trying to keep your tires cleaned out and blaze through the pit.
Very, very true. I'd say I barely have enough power to make 44" Boggers work properly in gnarly mud bogs. And my pigs no slouch in the pony department.
Of course, it's all relative to weight, too. Throwing your engine in my gutted Bronco would probably make it tear itself in half. You running juice (yet)?
Its funny how people talk about cutting weight in the vehicle. I wonder if there been studies on how the weight of the driver effects horsepower? Some of these guys can probably gain some horsepower if they took the fork out of their mouth and also save money too! LOL
Mo', no juice yet. Eventually I'll go ahead with a 150 shot though. Thats the plan anyways. That will be pushing the hp in the 750 range which is getting to the ragged edge for a bored out 34 year old block with no hard blok.
Weight savings for street racing is important. Pounds saved equals horsepower gained. This isn't AS critical in mud bogging/racing. You may save ten pounds by losing your inner fenders...but lets face it, it doesn't really matter. Ten pounds isn't going to make or break you in the mud. However, when you've got a 6k pig like mine racing a gutted 2k eb....well, you'd better believe that his 4000# weight savings equals serious advantage. Its funny, the last mud drag I ran I filled my tank up at the only pump in town and the attendant looked at me funny and said "you sure you wanna do that? All the other racers are only getting a gallon or two at a time to save weight". I just laughed and told him to look at my truck and if he really thought I was concerned about weight. What I didn't tell him was that the other guys were knuckleheads for thinking getting two gallons of gas instead of 12 was really going to make a difference.
Naaaa...I use race gas if they have it but if I gotta drive out to bfe to race and all they have is supreme I just fill up and I dump in a quart of my racers buddies "special brew #6". I dunno, his families been racing since the 40's and it hasn't blown me up yet. I forget whats in it, toulene (sp?) I think among other things. Gets her done.
