I have a 79 F250 with a D60 4.10 gear in the front. Just curious how much that axle is worth, I know there aren't too many of them out there. It is on the truck all in working condition.
You didn't hear? They had a recall on those usless pieces of junk a long time back. I'll take care of it for you if you want. Sorry man, couldn't help it. Axle itself is worth around $1000. Sometimes they go for a little less, sometimes a little more but $1K is about it.
I would concurr that the average price of a 79 d60 in good working order is @1k. At least out here in the NW. In other places of the country they are much cheaper, especially the NE it seems, which is where you are. Because of so many Fords getting the snofighter package up there they are much more common. I would say closer to $500 at your location. But even out here you can find the odd deal for $300. Are you buying or selling?
Chek this out- years ago my dad told me about a truck sitting behind his neighbors house that used to be driven,he assumed something was wrong with it. I finally went to ask about it one day, guy told me it had some kind of heavy duty front axle in it- I thought "yea, shure it does- heard that one before" Weve all run into people that dont know any better and think theyve got something special but they dont. Anyway, I look under truck and think to myself "thats a weird axle", and then-"HOLY SHNIKIES, ITS A DANA 60!!!!!". Truck had a worn out 460 and only reverse left in tranny- I didnt even try to haggle him down on his price-$200 sad thing is that axle has been sitting around unused for about 6 or 7 years now since i bought the truck.
Thanks for the replies. I am not buying or selling it...I own it and just wondered how much it was worth. I bought the whole truck which was in working condition for $700. I knew it was a good deal I just didn't know exactly how good. The cab is even solid which surprised me. Only problem was the guy had crashed it into a snowbank and dented up one fender and door. Since then I've turned the 351M into a 400, put a 4" susp. and 3" body lift, and rebuilt the C6 with a truckmaster kit.....I'm getting in the mood for a 460 now....
You know, I've always wondered. I know everyone says bigger is better, but when in enough enough? How much power do w actually need? Heck, even the monster trucks don't get over 1400 hp most of the time. I'd think that 800 would probably be enough to spin 44's good enough. For a bogger...heck, even for a trail rig.
An 800 hp trail rig...that makes me laugh...gotta have 5.86's and a klune-v in lo-loc just to keep from going too fast. and even then you'd need 6 piston calipers to stop at a crawl...
You know what momudder, you're right. I would settle for 1400 HP . . . can't see much point in building my engine to anything over that. No, seriously I want to build to 800-1000 HP for my truck. Not so much that I need it but I think it would be cool as hell to race ricers and toast them with a 6K pound truck. Then you can finish it by running over them.
I think the high horses are much more necessary for mud, not really so much for the trail unless you plan on knocking down trees instead of driving around them. You can never have too much HP in the mud when you're trying to keep your tires cleaned out and blaze through the pit.
Screw 514 . . . go 545 with a blower and then start saving up for the SVO block and punch that sucker to an 806.
an 806?! That would be cool as hell but not very practical. What would your gas mileage be on one of those? I'm thinking about swapping in a diesel now. I'm jealous of the oil burners.
Big blocks . . . practical? Well let's just say that if you can afford to drop $30K into an engine I don't think you'll be too worried about mileage. I would imagine you MIGHT get 1:1 on trick fuel.
