I have a 95 Ext E-4WD and it does have rear shocks. Without shocks, you are going to go through tires like crazy with flat spots on the tires due to their bouncing around.
I have not seen tire wear as a problem yet. but it does rock or sway when on the freeway doing 65-70 mph. and towing a trailer was a really swaying trip!
If you have no shocks on the back it will hardly be driveable because it will be bouncing up and down so bad. Without rear shocks if you hit a big enough bump the rear springs will fall out which could be a bit of a problem too
my 91 2WD shorty had shocks in the rear, but they were blown. and that van bounced alot. the 95 4WD ext doesnt bounce as much as sway, maybe the extra weight in the back keeps it from bouncing as much? i dont know. but I dont see shocks back there anywhere!
That's weird. I am sure you would be bouncing a lot without shocks. I'll take a picture of the shocks on my 95 Ext 4WD and e-mail it to you. Maybe you're looking at the wrong place.
my mistake, sorry guys, i hadnt realized that they were not inside the actual coil springs, and the fact that they were covered in dirt so bad i couldnt see em :\

On my 1990 model, the rear springs are bolted to brackets on either end, probably to prevent them from popping out of their perches. Are there models that do not use these?
