Speedometer & temperature guage stopped functioning

I have a 1996 Mercury Mystique and the speedometer and temperature guage died. The temp. guage was the first to go and a week later the speedometer went howqever the RPM gauge is still functioning properly. In addition to this the car hesitates whenever I begin moving but eventually runs fine if I don't stop at traffic lights. Coulld these problems be all related? FYI - My check engine light is not on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike

Mike, this is a truck site so you probably wont find much help, but Ill try a bit. I would start with a temp sender on the temp guage problem, as the Contour/Mystique had a common problem with them. As for the speedo problem it may be a bad speed sensor or cable if it stopped working suddenly.
As for the engine there are just too many possibilities. You may want to get a drivibility diag at your dealer. It could be a fuel filter, fuel pump going out, or many other possibilities.

Speedometer / temp guage problem

Thanks for responding. I ordered a speed sensor and will try replacing the temp. sensor as well.
