Hey everyone. I just pulled a Ford 312 Engine out of my 1956 Ford F-100. My dad located a 351 Windsor that I purchased and want to mount in it's place. The only problem is that I have no idea what I need to properly mount it. Will it slip in as it is, or do I need to purchase a special mounting kit? If so where would I find it?
Ok... so I do need the new parts, but I'm pretty new with rebuilding trucks. Is there a site or someplace that will tell me which stuff I need? I don't understand a lot of the numbers, so the easier it is to understand the better.
order a catalog from mid fifty, 1-800- 252-1956, www.midfifty.com and i would try sacramento vintage ford, www.vintage-ford.com, their catalog is a few bucks, but some of their stuff was a bit cheaper than mid fifty, and vice versa. LMC truck also has some stuff as well as mac's i think, but i never really used them. they all have a few different options.
Yes I am planning on selling the 312. How would I find out how much it is worth? I've already had an offer, but I have no idea what to expect out of these old motors.
Well, after asking and waiting for 1 year I finally sold my Y-block for 400.00 in Denver. Not much interest here due to high cost of rebuild and machine work. I let the buyer have everthing from the fan to the rear-end including an uncut harness AND a very nice chassis. This was after a lot of other offers. The buyer helped me remove the bed and the cab in addition to the $$$ ( 3 hours) The guys wanting y-block are the nostalgia hot rodders. Good luck to you and have lots of fun with your project no matter what with the 312.
Ok, I've got a home for the 312. Now I need to worry about the 351. I think I have found a place that can help me with the mounts, but another concern is the front suspension. I've heard that the 351 is considerably heavier than a 312 and will tilt the front down quite a bit. Is it a good idea to add some extra leafs to the front suspension to keep it up or is it not that big of a deal?
