A good discussion we are having here!
One thing that I failed to mention that I REALLY dislike is the multi-car "teams". The whole idea of one driver BLOCKING other drivers to assist his team mate is crazy in my book.
That's FOOTBALL for Pete's sake, not RACING !
It happened before the multi car teams. Friends who were a lap down bocked for their friend who was trying to win. Now team mate has replaced friend.
All the team work kinda takes the point outta racing lol, i always thought your team was your pit crew and the rest of the race was dog eat dog, well how else are you supposed to prove your skill......maybe im old skool or just mean
I am not so sure it is about favorites as much as it is about money. If you are a popular name, you are good for the circuit. There are occassions that the big names get the benefit of the doubt, but the same thing happens in every one of our businesses. If you have a salesman that has been your ace for years, but you catch him playing golf on company time ( or whatever violation), he will probably get a free pass or not get that severe of a penalty. The problem is that it is on a nationally televised broadcast and EVERYONE can see it.
Re salesman... I played a bunch of golf on company time, they knew it and they didn't care as long as I put up big numbers. They also knew I would travel on Sundays and put in 20 hour days to close a deal. Your point is well taken, those drivers that bring in the bucks buy themselves some slack ... happens every day in business across the country.
