Hey, Im wondering if anyone can give me a hand with my heater core replacement...
I heard you get at it from the glove box, is this true?
Should I just remove these two hoses: [pic of hoses], remove the shroud cover thing in the glovebox, and then replace the core? Is it as simple as that???
Take the glovebox completely out of the opening (door and compartment). It makes things a lot easier. There are some screws that hold the heater core shroud in place that you can't get unless you remove the glovebox.
You will have to drain some coolant and disconnect both hoses as well.
Don't overtighten the clamps on the hoses when reinstalling. You will partially distort the heater core connections. Can cause them to leak.
When you got the core, was it the high output version? It looks different than mine, which was simple, but I was told by my uncle that the fenderwell had to come out to get at the lower bolts, as the core is in the outer case, and unfortunately, it kinda looks like that's the one you have. My Haynes manual doesn't even mention the high output version. On My 86, the core is on the inside of the firewall, and yours is obviously on the uotside. I took mine right out the back, through the glove box, no prob, but it doesn't appear you have the same one. I also have air on mine.

Reason: add info
yes I just finished replacing it yesterday(its a high output but I put in a regular heater core), took about and hour and a half not 15 mins...
The lower bolt has a nut on it, which has to be removed from behind the fender, so it can be a problem
When you take off the heatercore/blower shroud theres like 12 bolts you also have to remove before you can remove the core itself too.
