Ok I know that you guys probably won't like this idea but I am curious if anyone has done it and how hard it was. I am thinking about swapping my PSD for a 24 valve Cummins. I know that there is going to be a lot of wiring changes but I am wondering if it is very difficult to do. I have a 96 F-350 and it has a few miles on it and I don't want to spend the extra money to get more power from it if it is just going to die or blow up on me and I want more power so I am stuck with doing an engine swap of some sort and then adding the extra power to a new engine. What do you guys think?
BGASTRK, unless you have brilliant mechanical/engineering ability (and I am not saying you haven't), I would not bother. Assuming the engine fits, you will be looking at having to fabricate new engine mounts, and various other things. It will be to expensive, and will cause more tears than what it is worth.
I would imagine the easiest way to do an engine swap would be to go to a later level PSD. Am I right people?
Also you will be surprised how much you can raise the power of your PSD, without doing to much damage. There are many threads here related to upping the power of your PSD without to many service issues.
I would think the best way to go about it would be to get a complete donor truck so you have everything that you need to work with. But - I wouldn't think that it would be a very cost effective swap. You would spend all that money on the motor/donor truck, swap, and then you'd have to spend a good bit to add the power you want to. It's not like it's impossiple - it has been done - mostly truck/sled pulling guys I think. I mean that would be cool as hang - let us know if you do it.
