Question power gone

my buddy has a 1989 4x2 with 3 inch duals, when the truck is cold it moves great. But when it heats up its power goes away and it fells like you driving a go kart. He said that there is one o2 sensor in it, I dont know if those trucks came with 2 sensors. I dont know why it fells so powerless please help, daily driver.

If the engine has a knock sensor, it should be checked. If it is ill, it can tell the engine computer there is a knock when there is none. The computer will retard the ignition, and power will go away.

3" exhaust is a lot for a 302. Smaller exhaust (2.25 duals) would do a better job of scavaging the exhaust charge away from the combustion chamber. Your exhaust is running too cool.

Too big of an exhaust will cause you to lose torque.
