I came across this 347 last week. Bare with me because I hardly know squat about engines and bought my Bronco for that reason. I am looking for a fun motor but this could be over the top. I want reliabilty and it is my daily driver.
The block came from and 88 notch or fastback???, it is a roller?? It has the following.
Clevite Rod,Main,and Cam bearings.
Clevite Brass freeze plugs.
SVO Crank part# M-6303-B340
SVO Forged steel connecting rods 5.400 lenght, part #M-6200-D50
SRP Forged flat top pistons
SVO sfi 18-1 crank dampner, part # M-6316-A50
SVO Ford high performance oil pump and hardened shaft Part # M-6600-DS
Sealed power 4.030 rings
Moroso 7 QT. oil pan
Moroso oil pickup
Machined and balanced from a very reputable machine shop.
All fastener bolts are ARP.
Comp cams solid roller cam # 35-773-8
gross valve lift int-.621 exh-.627
Lobe sep 110.0
Comp cam solid roller lifters.
The seller said he has 3500.00 in it but will talke 3000.00.
He also said he would take 2500.00 w/ out the Cam and solid lifters, which is better because I want a Hydraulic lift and a milder cam. I think the oil pan will have to go as well. After the SAD/MASS AIR swap and heads, intake, injector upgrade/ fuel pump and other stuff I will be easily looking at 5K total, agreed??? Getting kinda pricey now!
Would this bolt up to my E4OD also?
Any thoughts??? Thanks for your time!
You could probably get into a 351 for less, you'll have a better starting point from there if you deceide you want to stroke the 351 up to a larger displacement. Is this a used engine? If so, you need to consider that whatever mileage is on it could be some hard miles. Yes, you E4OD will bolt up to this.
The motor is newly rebuilt. Never ran since the rebuild. The money thing is a good point. Jegs or Summit has a 370 HP 5.0 rebuilt for 3200.00. That is almost trun key plus shipping. Good point though.
i don't mind you e-mailing me at all. ok here goes, if your looking for some thing to play with that's a good motor. the price for the motor isn't realy bad (3000) compared to some of the others. i just ordered a new short block from d&d motorsports and that cost me 3000 with out shiping. tell him to keep the cam it's way to big for what you wan't i have a .588 lift and thats been a pain to keep running. 347s are expensive to set up but as long as you take your time and do it right it's one heck of a motor. the maf is a little tricky to set up and get right. this isn't a daily driver is it.
Thanks for the reply. That was my next question, it is going to be a daily driver. The more I learn the more I am thinking I don't want this 347 as my daily driver. Thanks again...
it is one heck of a deal and the 347 is a great motor don't get me wrong but the time it takes to work out all the bugs is a couple of weeks. the major issue with it being a daily driver is it needs alot of gas and with current gas prices that hurts.
also unless your bronco has mass air already then that conversion alone is $1500 because of your E4OD tranny. Swap to a 351w, its a strait over swap, i did this last summer and has been great. I actually get better mileage to then i did with the 302.
Thats true Kemical, I saw a big improvement in mileage on my Bronco even when I went to the 408, as long as I kept my foot out of it. A nicely built 351 would be a good choice for in a truck or Bronco.
yep, i did it last summer. had a 302 , swapped in a 351w. get the motor as complete as possible though. you would need a different flexplate to match up the 351 to the tranny you currently have
