Hey guys. I picked up a set of those stock push bumpers that bolt on the front bumper a while ago. Today I decided to finally tried bolting them up and couldn't get the studs to align into the bumper / frame holes. This is on my '79 F100. I thought all the bumpers were essentially the same, especially the front. Any ideas? - these things don't even look like they'd follow the contours of a section (of the bumper). Anyone ever try swapping a pair onto their bumper that orginally had none? The push bumpers that I'm talking about are the chome looking jobies that have a strip of black plastic on the front face.
Do you have guards for a '73-'77.5 bumper??? The front bumpers change dramatically when Ford went to the one piece grille insert front. The front bumper got changed, as did the front of the frame. The frame got formed into the shape of the bumper and the bumper mounts directly to the frame, where as the older trucks used brackets and were a much different shape.
This I didn't know, my fit up problems are starting to make sense then. My 79's front bumper bolts right up to the front end of the frame. I've never seen how a '73-'77 is bolted, let alone paid much attention to the profile of the bumper. Thanks, I'll look into that thought.
