Electric H2O Pump

I'm going to put electric fans in when I get back from patrol and was thinking about going with electric water pump as well. Have any of you guys run these, pro's and con's.

Pro: less drag on the engine
Con: may need to upgrade alternator.
Con: an electrical problem can result in no water circulation.
Con: electric pumps are not as reliable (long lived) as mechanical pumps.

The last time I heard this discussion, the concensus was that electric pumps were not a good idea on a street vehicle. But that's been awhile, and maybe there are better pumps out there now ...

What if he put an inline water pressure guage on it (something like this but bigger) so if the flow stopped, it would show up immediately? Or combine that with a LED on the same circuit as the pump, so if there were an electrical problem (or an LED with a transistor (I think?)) it would turn off (or on)?

Not practical

I think electric water pumps were primarily intended for drag cars - short runs with very little load. Mechanical water pumps are really the only choice for the street. Without looking at specs, any high-po mechanical water pump should outlast and outflow an electric pump. I wouldn't do it!!
