Unhappy Heater/AC leaking !!!!!!!!!

I have an early 1998 model F150. I've had a lot of radiator fumes/smell blowing inside the cab. There is NO leaking on the floorboard inside the cab, as I've experienced with a bad heater core before. I found the leak coming from the firewall, from a hose that is not connected to anything, that sticks out of the firewall about an inch. Is this some sort of drain tube, and why is it leaking? Can somebody also tell me where I can get an illustrated service manual I can download?????

The A/C evaporator drain is right behind the RH head. If you are smeeling antifreeze inside and getting smudge on windshield, chances are your have a heater core leaking.

Arrow Stop Leak?

What do you think would happen if I put some Radiator Stop Leak in there? If it did stop it from leaking, does that Stop Leak stuff last for only a little while? Could I have confidence in the thing? Also, what would be a good brand to get for the Stop Leak?? Thanks!

i tried some of that on my old explorer along time ago, forgot what brand it was, but it didn't work. on my f150 i had the same thing, fumes, smell, etc. but no wet floorboards, so when i changed my heater core, the tray that it sits in was full and it was leaking underneith my truck. its not a bad idea to try some of that stuff first, just to save you the trouble of changing the heater core.

After changing the heater core in my 97, I discovered I had no control of the heat. It turned out to be the motor for the blend door. Coolant had got to it from the leak and corrosion had taken care of the rest! You may want to keep that in mind when dealing with a leaking heater core! Also with the six cylinder engine, check for voltage in the coolant by taking the negative lead of a volt meter on the negative battery post, and putting the positive probe in the degas bottle, if you can measure more than .5 volt, you need to flush and change the coolant.

there is not much to it, just takes time trying to find all the little screws that hold everything in. the bad part is undoing all the wiring, you have to undothe wire connections through the firewall, and all the little airbag and ignition wires. a word of advise from me to you would be mark all the wires with some tape and make a diagram on a piece of paper showing where they go. i had that problem, took me awhile to get my truck to start again. check out my gallery there are some pictures of the process. it will give you an idea of what all it takes. good luck, let us know if oyu have any problems
