All right, here's the deal. I have an 89 EB, 351W. I just bought the truck three weeks ago. Eversince i've had it, i've smelt antifreeze coming from the firewall on the passenger side and from the resevoir area, after i drive it. I thought it was the heater core, but the Antifreeze is not coming in the car. [I cant smell it while im inside.] I had no idea where this stuff is going. My resevior is constantly going empty and last night, i noticed some Antifreeze leaking from under the front portion of the truck. It has a brand new radiator. Could it still be the heater core, or is it maybe the Water Pump?. Should i replace the resevoir and the heater hoses?
pull up the carpet on the right side in front see if its wet.if it is the heater core is bad. should be the same as 87 remove the glovebox, there is about 6 screws right in behind glovebox remove the screws the cover, and your looking at the heater core.not a hard job and cheap repair, can't hurt to change it, it is 14 years old.
water pump. i had a similar problem and it was the water pump, a butt to replace bc one of the bolts broke so i had to drill it out, not cool. anywho i say water pump.
I think that its your water pump seal. my seal broke behind the water pump ( I couldn't see it) all I knew was there was a terrible leak and at first I thought it was leaking from where the crankshaft is, it wasn't.
My 87 did the same thing, it was the water pump once, then it was the seal on the new water pump. Once it dumped all the coolant into a parking lot because the guy who checked the seals left a hose loose. Made me think I had made a bad decision on buying her, But I soon realized it was a little bad luck. She runs fine now.

Hi, here is something else to try. Checker auto parts sells the leak detector kits for almost all leaky areas. Basically, it is a dye that floresces in UV light. You dump it in whatever is leaking. In your case the cooling system. Run the system and use a UV light to find the leaky place. (they sell the whole kit including the light).
You will be very surprise at what leaks appear!!! You might find more they just the heater core needs replacement.

Well one of the most unlikely areas will be the Thermostat housing. Usually those gaskets will go bad and leak fluid while the engine is running. Take a look directly under the thermostat housing and you should see a small puddle of fluid, if you do you have found your problem!! Hope this helps!
Ok, here it is. Turns out, the water pump is dry. The heater core and the heater hoses were also dry. I took a really close look at my hoses and seen a by pass hose directly under the throttle bodies. That hose was was melted and coroded beyond recognition. I went to autozone, purchased a 4 inch long hose and two clamps and slapped them on.
