We got this truck at our shop and the thing just quit running on the road yesterday......we checked timing ...Ballencer is off but the compression stroke and rotor at number 1 is dead on....we got good spark.....compression good.....coil and duraspark new....got fuel....it should be running...any suggestions? Help!
Maybe it should be running from what you have posted, but do you really have a spark at the coil? At the spark plugs? New coil and Duraspark means nothing as either could be defective. At least it seems you can rule out the timing chain.
Timing marks dont line up with TDC....but rotor and compression seem to coinside correctly.
Start juice is a no go as well. Hot spark at coil, dist, and plugs.....we are currently removing the intake to recheck some stuff........its killing us!!!!
as long as you're already tearing into it, why not go into the timing cover to check the alignment of the timing set? if the nylon cam sprocket is crapped out, drop the pan and clean out the oil pick-up screen. i just did one where i cut the cover off the screen with tin snips and was able to remove all the crud. leaving it in there is a recipe for certain disaster.
Fuel is not an issue...it poured out when we forgot to plug off the line with the carb off...and spinning it....
Start Juice never worked since it died.
The rotor points to number 1 when the piston is TDC....taken by a staw in the spark plug hole.......the timing marks dont line up at that point....ran good for a while with no probs...just no power....and bam...sounded like you put the trans in part while moving.....ratched and died.....hasent started since........got other stuff to work on now....
Yes, the roll pin could have sheared, and the rotor just happens to point at TDC but is really 180 out. It would tend to catch there since the dizzy shaft usually has a raised bump around the hole.
no we havent....and that is a great point....we have been working other rigs for the moment....but that is an easy test.....ill post results as soon as i find em......
edit.....boss installed a new whirly in the truck the other day unknown to me.......so......

"Id take a look at the old dist. & see if it is broken. If it broke the pump is locked up for some reason."
Not necessarily, but you're right. A broken roll pin should alert one that the oil pump may have an issue. However, they can and do shear without an oil pump failure, especially if the gear is loose on the shaft.
mudinford, betcha anything the boss put the dizzy in 180 degrees out. It's a common mistake.
