I have a 1996 Explorer, and the people that had it before me, took out the cd changer. Well, I "couldnt" drive a car with out a cdplayer, so my parents bought me a 10 disk cd-changer. Well..its nice and all, but it wont play burned cds/mp3s. Well, it was expensive as hell, and my parents would be hella p*ssed if i got rid of it, and what i was wondering was will the new cdplayers, the ones from like 98-01 that have both cd and cassete(The one that has problems with the screen going dim) work with my factory ford cdchanger. My friends f-250 has that cdplayer, and my cds work fine in there. I think it is a little larger than the cd player i have, and what i was wondering was if i got a new little radio trim, one from a newer year, and then got the cdplayer installed, would that work. If that makes anysense. HAHA. anyhelp is appreciated
I don't know if I follow you exactly, but I have a 98 xlt with the stock CD/Cassette player. It has always run hot, and had problems playing burned cdr's after it got warm. (It does not play mp3's).
I put a 6 CD kenwood changer in the armrest and bought an adapter wiring harness that uses the stock Ford radio as the head unit. I did not buy the Kenwood unit that plays mp3s too, but could have. the adapter harnesses run $80 to $100 or so.
I don't understand the details of why your new unit won't play. Is it because you don't have a connection to the head unit?
You could opt to buy a new head unit from the same mfr as the cd player and install them and not need to buy a separate adapter harness. You would likely need a faceplate kit to go along with a single DIN unit if you're replacing a double DIN one.
