I have a 2001 Crew cab long bed. I have noticed that the exhaust can be disconnected pre-muffler where the cab meets the bed under the truck. My question is if I put a turn down elbow where I disconnect the exhaust will it quiet the loudness of the straight pipe down? I may also be concerned the the exhaust will be under the cab of the truck? Has anyone done this? Any thoughts? I want to make it simple, so if I don;t like it, I dont have to go to the muffler shop to change it.
Installing a turndown in that location won't help the volume level in the cab much, since the exit will be right under you, basically. A turndown at the stock location would point the sound away from you, but it wouldn't help much in your situation. Also, having the exhaust exit under the truck would be a concern, especially when stopped if the windows were open. A better, though slightly more expensive option, would be to put a 90* elbow on, and aim the exhaust out the side, in front of the rear wheel.
i just took my muffler of where it unbolts yesterday. get a turndow for only one reason. the black smoke caked my axel. i am getting a turn down tomorrow. loud as no other. but one thing i noticed was a little more top end power.
i just took my muffler of where it unbolts yesterday. get a turndow for only one reason. the black smoke caked my axel. i am getting a turn down tomorrow. loud as no other. but one thing i noticed was a little more top end power. it also just lets the smoke billow out from under my truck. i have not noticed it stink up the cab nor have i even smelled it sitting at a light with all four windows down. i am happy. but is it bad for my engine???
There's nothing about what you've done that's bad for your engine. If it was caking the axle before, what's it caking now? That soot is going somewhere.
hopefully it will cake the pavement after the turndown is put on. i might not even worry about the turndown. just going to do it right in a month or so and get a REAL exaust system from the turbo back. any recommendations? just have a 55 horse powerchip and k&n filter. also anyone have any recommendations for high performance injectors? i have the money for it saved and am ready to upgrade but dont know which injectors to get?
Along these lines I'm curious. I was once told for every bend you lose about 5% of flow potential. (Mandrel bent I'm assuming.) Anyone have any experience/numbers/thoughts regarding this?
