I was thinking of switching out my Dana 44 in my 79 4x4 and was wondering if a Dana 60 will fit right in or if I should try to find a 8lug Dana 44. I am wondering if in need to switch any of the steering arms/box or if it will fit where the current Dana 44 5 lug is??
I also wanted to put a Dana 70 out of a 73 Super Camper Special in where my 9in is and wondered if it would fit with no upgrades or if I needed anything to make it fit??? Also, are all Dana 70 limited slip??

Problem is a dana 60 is set up for leaf springs. So there would be a lot of modifications involved in swaping one in your truck.
I think the rear will bolt in , the u joint might have to be changed though.
I believe that the trac lock has always been a option.
On the front, your best bet would be to find 8 lug Dana 44 parts. You will only need the caliper brackets, the spindles, and the 8 lug brakes. I know a 2wd dana 60 will bolt right in, and maybe not even need the u-joint swap, but the shaft will need shortened since the dana 60 pinion is longer. You are starting to look at a snowball, since once you do this, then the brake system will need upgraded to handle the bigger brakes.
