I've been trying for over 1.5 hours to replace the engine cover on a '95 4.0L automatic aerostar
I"ve yanked, pulled, whacked, kicked, gentlely...just about everything but I can't get the latches to line so they can be snapped shut. It's as if the top edge of the cover is hitting up under the console or something. I have removed the cup holder which is screwed in place where the manual shifter would be, but no go.
Ok...I got it back on but it was a pain in the butt
yup... its a real pain to get that cover back in. its not something that goes straight into place on the first try. it always takes a few tries and wiggling around to get it back in.
On the underside of the center console/radio, there is a small computer box with I believe to be 8mm screw heads. Take that out and it seems to go a little easier.
when i have problems with mine. I learned that I am trying to hook the latch on the far side of where its supposed to hook into. like. the hook isnt going into the hole, but the back of the bracket.
I hate it when I miss the hole! ha ha
it feels like the latch wont close, and your buddy is pushing with his leg for all hes worth, and you still cant get it to lock. yeah. been there done that
hard to see what your doind down there with all the carpet around..
Haynes book claims there are 4 latches, 2 either side. All I see is 2 on pass. side & 1 on driver side. With 3 undone, cover will not come loose. So is there a hidden 4th one? Have not yet removed the black computer box. Maybe that'll do it. Will I find the PCV valve in here?
i have a 91 4.o. my pcv valve is located on the back part of the drivers sidevalve cover. i suppose you can get it from inside. i just reached way back while in front of the van. also my engine cover only has three clips. two on the passenger side, and one on the drivers side. rick
The 93 has three latches. You're only wasting your time if you tug on this cover. The cover goes right into place once you get the hang of it. Practice at least 50 times
Remove the little black computer box at the base of the instrument panel cover. Then remove the "cup holder - yeah, right - cup holder for flat cups" behind the cover. The cover will slide right in and out then.
Line up your latches with the slot in the middle of the catch; not the end of the catch. If it's all set up right, it will snap down easily.
It's really a weird set up.
