when the vehicle is running the "unlock" button on the key ring won't work? Also, the numeric door pad won't unlock the doors when the truck is running either!! Is there a way to bypass this??
hmm, not sure, but on my 2001 cobra, and my sisters 2003 explorer, the key fob wont work when truck is running, not sure about key pad entry. I found this annoying. new rig has manual locks ... dont have that problem anymore!!

Reason: rephrase wrong term
Not sure on your truck, but a lot of the cars will not allow key fob functions while the tranny is in gear and engine running. I am guessing the Ford probably takes it a step further and disables it with just the engine running.
It is a safety "Feature" I am sure. Some idiot probably got himself run over by the truck or some other foolishness while playing with the fob. Could be worse. I had an 86 TBird that was a wonderful car with a factory alarm. The alarm was activated when you locked the doors with the button. This was OK but if for example it was a hot summer day and the windows were open, if you opened the door by reaching thru the window or just sitting in the seat and opening the door to get out, the alarm would go off. Mostly embarrassment and not a real problem, but surprising the first time.
I am sure your problem is a similar inconvenience due to an "unexpected" sequence of actions on your part. IE the designers didn't intend for you to do that.
Some day we will be so safe since our cars will have all the bases coverd, yeah sure.
the one thing the designer always forgets is, no matter how idiot proof you make something, a better idiot will always appear. like that jerk that flipped his mobile home cause he put cruise control on and walked into the back. then he sues the company for not explaining that cruise wasnt auto pilot, wins milloins and another rv.
moral of story .... the rest of us get screwed by all the safeties inconveniencing us.
It might have something to do with the engine kill. If you were driveing and armed the alarm, then set it off, it might kill your engine, I am guessing, but that would be a bad thing to happen.
Never made sense to me... Can't see how unlocking the doors with the engine running could pose a safety hazard? I guess there IS always a bigger idiot out there.
As for the door keypad, it seems that after-thought of a "feature" is just another FOB glued to the door. The REAL door keypads (like on the F150s & cars) work just fine when the engine is running. At least my wife's '02 SuperCrew does.

The problem isn't unlocking your door, it would be with accidentaly arming your car while driving, triggering the engine kill, and screwing up your day.
My 2002 Explorer WILL unlock the doors with the fob while the engine running. My 2000 F-350 WILL NOT. I know 'cause I have s'perienced it first hand. Someone told me back when I first noticed this that it was part of the main computer programming and could not be changed by me.........

I'm not sure but I think you can set your preferance on this. My '02 SD does this also, and I don't really mind, but I do recall somewhere in the owners manual you can change this option.....check it out.

I've been going backwards in "new" truck purchases (from '01 to '97). When did Ford add an engine kill button to the keyfob? My '01 did nothing but lock/unlock the doors. Well, there was also that annoying horn-honking/light-flashing button that only seemed to work at 2am on a quiet night or when a large group of people were around.

I dont know, my 2003 has an engine kill if the alarm is tripped.
