Hey folks, Need some advice, I have a 92' Ext. Cab Ranger with a 2.3 5spd. My problem is I am only getting around 19 miles to the gallon, Recent tune-up, (last month). I think I drive decently, country roads and freeways, what kind of things do the moreknowledgablethanme suggest I look at?
Run 5w30 oil, keep the tire pressures up, make sure the fuel system is clean, clean air filter, don't gear down in leu of using the brakes, only use the A/C when really needed, keep the use of the accelerator smooth(don't stab the gas).
Look into minor mods like exhaust, etc. @ MotorHaven.
Read up in the Ranger forum.
AL.

Yup, Replaced the plugs (motorcraft plat) and wires, ran Seafoam thru, cleaned IAC, MAS, freed the intake a little, running 5W30 Mobil 1 and still getting the same milage 17-19 MPG. Haven't had time to get the code read, seems there is no where around here (Ohio) that pulls codes for free anymore.
Two things come to mind, when was the last
time it got a new T-stat?? I think this engine
has two ECT sensors, one for the ECU, and
another for the gauge in the dash, if the ECU
thinks it's running cool, it'll richen the mixture...
Engine Coolant Temperature. You might also check the ACT, too.. Air Charge Temperature. (temperature of the air coming into the intake. will add extra fuel if the ECM thinks it's cold outside...) They can also get coated with muck from the PCV valve & EGR that is inducted into the intake manifold, thus sending a false signal to the ECM. Unscrew it from the intake, and inspect it for gunk.

Reason: added info
Engine Coolant Temperature...I knew that, well it has been repaced w/in the last month, will check the ACT soon. Found out my speedo is off by 13 mph, truck said 55, Officer Johnny said I was doing 68, mayb my milage isn't as bad as I thought??????
My truck was getting milage like that and then I figured out my timing was off case the belt broke and when I replaced it the milage went all the way up to 26mpg
