Question cryoed transmission

a buddy of mine just found out about a guy in Arkansas that cryo-freezes transmissions to make them super strong. anyone heard about this or have one in their truck? i guess they are about five grand. any input or comments? i am thinking seriously on getting one.

I don't know about the Transmissions but on firearms barrels are cryo'd to allieve inherant tensions or stresses thus making them less susceptable to heat movement (a.k.a. bullet walking). Since the case is probably the strongest part of the trans I don't understand how freezing it will make weak parts by design stronger. I believe that $3200 to Brians Truck Shop will beat $5000 to Mister Freeze. JMHO...

They don't cryo the case only the internals ( planetaries and shafts ). Don't know about trannies but I have seen axle u-joints that are supposedly 30% stronger after being cryo'd.

thanks for the input. they do freeze the insides of the tranny to like -300 degrees. i guess it changes the molecular structure of the metal therefore making it 30-50% stonger. my buddy found out about what they actually do this morning and is sending his mustang tranny to get cryoed. thanks -jake-

We used to use Cryoed parts on 4stroke racing engines for longevity but it didnt work. We cryoed every part of the engine and it lasted no longer than any other engine we did without cryo parts in them. The only time it works good is when we used them in smaller 2 stroke racing engines on the piston and cylinder only. The cryoed piston and cylinder would not expand as much so we could run tighter clearances on the piston. But as for lasting any longer no dice. I would have to say with a transmission it would do no better than standard parts. Plus at 5000.00 for a cyroed transmission is outragious. We could have a whole engine cryoed for about 225.00 and that included all the parts and the block.
