well you guys, today i decided i would take my starter out and get it bench tested and to my surprise (not) it was shot, so i went out and bought a nother starter, while in the process of putting my new starter on i dropped a bolt in the bell housing and i cant get it out, and just to make sure if it would be ok if it was in there, i started it and clunk clunk so i shut off as fast as possible........ please tell me i did not screw up worse then i usalyy do, well i know i idd, but how do i get this bolt out!?!?!?
I'm not sure about your year of truck, and the type of tranny, but there is an inspection plate you can take off to see the flywheel. I'd try one of those magnetic tools or a piece of wire to fish it out.
I looked under my Explorer w/ 4.0 & A4LD. From what I saw, there is no inspection plate. My advice would be to attach a magnet to a stick and hope for the best. Otherwise, the motor or trans needs to come out.
