I just used carb cleaner on the parts.(I did not clean the charcoal canister.)Wen I put it all back together and run the truck i turned on the lights, doam lights and heater it acts like it wants to die. When the RPMS go up it is ok. Also note when the RPMS go down the battery indicater drops and then it will go back up.

the 2 things are unrelated. you need to find out if the alternator is putting out the correct voltage. put a voltmeter across the battery and at idle should read at least 13.8 v. if it does, then i would suspect a bad/failing battery which you could then load test. if the battery voltage drops dramatically when you crank the engine then most likely the battery is bad...
Alright I just typed out a whole big message but my cpu crashed and I lost it. So going to start over again. You all seem to know what your talking about much more than I know thats for sure my experience in things like this involved duct tape and rags to fix just about all my problems I had with my Humvee in Iraq but I pulled a P1443 off my 97 ranger and I can't pass smog with out it. So being as I don't know very much about these trucks or something that I think is really complicated I took it in to get dignosed. I would really love for you all to tell me how much they are trying to rip me off. Here is what the report said.
138131 INSPECTED AND FOUND ENGIN LIGHT ON. PULLED CODE P1443 - PURGE SYSTEM FAULT FROM PCM. INSPECTED OPERATION OF EVAP PURGE SYSTEM. FOUND PURGE SOLENOID STUCK CLOSED. HOSES ARE ALSO COMING APART. RECOMMEND REPLACE PURGE SOLENOID ASSEMBLY. ALSO FOUND VACUUM LEAKS AT UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD O-RINGS. RECOMMEND REPLACE UPPER AND LOWER INTAKE GASKETS DUE TO VACUUM LEAKS. CUSTOMER ADVISED AND DECLINED. EST FOR REPAIRS - PURGE VLAVE REPLACEMENT 350.00 (this blew my mind). UPPER INTAKE GASKT DUE TO VACUUM LEAK 402.00 (if the last on blew my mind this blew up my everything) OPTION TO PEROFRM UPPER AND LOWER AT SAME TIME WOULD REPAIR VACUUM LEAKS, OIL LEAKS AND REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND GASKT (i just replaced the therm 3 weeks ago) 828.00.
Now I don't consider myself a mechanic I just know how to tinker with things. This seems to me (by reading what you all have posted) to be a fairly simple job. I don't care about the oil leaks ill take care of that later, I just need to get this code fixed so I can pass smog and I'm not paying that much to do it. So what do you all think? Thanks again.
Well I changed the part and 5 mins 35$ and one drop of sweat later problem fixed thanks guys. Drove it for 30 mins after clearing my code it did not come back on we will see what the days ahead will say.

I've got the same problem, and got the same purge valve to replace and fix it. Was $17 on sale through Amazon.
It fixed the problem for a few days, but now the CEL w/ P1443 keeps coming back on every few days if not sooner.
I also replaced an emissions sensor over on the passenger side of the motor as well, can't remember what it is called.
My dad replaced the charcoal canister about 9 months ago when he still had the truck, so i don't THINK that is it.
The vacuum lines look good.

I'm stumped.
if you replaced the purge valve and that didn't make the code go away then you need to replace the purge solenoid.
