...some folks steal. About 2 weeks ago, I had my 69 F250 2wd and early 77 F250 4x4 moved to a temporary storage area in kind of a so-so neighborhood until I found a suitable place to work on them. Well, needless to say, BOTH trucks were taken, yes taken, right off the lot where I had them stored. The lot, by the way, has been owned by my family for ages. In any event, I had them placed in such a way where they couldn't be moved unless someone was willing to exert a lot off effort doing so. The way I see it, someone came in with a wrecker and moved both at the same time. Now I ask, didnt anyone see anything??? Turns out no one knows anything and the police are still 'searching'----yea heard that before too. In my opinion, certain people suck. Two of my favorite project trucks stolen and there is nothing that I can really do about it. Most likely they were cut for steel and sold or repainted or parted out. All my hard-earned money and effort gone. Thanks for letting me vent!
Ben
Sorry to hear that. It's hard to believe the effort these low-lives go to, to take something that dosen't belong to them. Like Big Orn said, hopefully you'll get some leads, and get them back.
Man I hate a thief.I hope you find out who did this.Forget about the cops helping, they dont put time into this stuff.Do some more investigating on your own.Somebody had to see a wrecker, and if it is identifiable,it will put you on the right track as to finding your trucks.Just make sure you are not seen while doing your detective work or they will either hide your stuff or get rid of it.I had this happen to me with one of my motorcycles.I found out,who took it and then kept an eye on the guy for about a week.I had a bunch of people in on it with me.Somebody was watching him day and night, after about a week,he goes to his inlaws house. While he is there visiting, the father-in-law opens the garage door to get his mower and guess what was in there.Yup,my bike.Well, against the advice of everybody in my garage when my spy came in and told me he saw it,I went directly to the house. The guy saw me pull in and ran in the house cause he knew I was going to beat him to a pulp. The father-in-law comes out and tells me to leave, that he called the cops.By now I am in a rage and am going to lose it,when all of a sudden three cop cars come flying around the corner.Seems one of my buddies knew I wasnt going to stop until I had my bike back,so he had called them.Long story short, cops hear my story, spy tells them he saw bike in garage an hour ago, cops make jerk open garage.Bam!There is my bike!Cops ask for registration,I give it,they check numbers, they match. They tell father-in-law he is going to jail for possession of stolen property.Father-in-law tells cops,son-in-law put bike in there a week ago.I get bike back, moron goes to jail.
That really stinks! You know, this week in the Atlanta GA area a security guard was coming off the bus to her job at a shopping center and she saw her friend's car that was reported stolen four days ago from another near by town.
So, she confronts the 16 year old that is sitting inside it that stole it. He would not release the car. Supposedly he tried to run her over. End result she shot him once in the head with a .38 and he is on life support.
Note: If you do something as bad as stealing someone's car and a female security guard that weighs 200 pounds comes over with a loaded weapon and is arguing with you to get out of the car ... use what remaining brains you have and compile. Or you will not have any brains left.
Moral of the story: Drive around, you might find it.
What you should do is request a list of all recently registered trucks just like yours in a 30 mile radius and go look at them. If you find it, call the police and have proof of ownership with VIN numbers. If you do not live in the south, how many 1969 and 1977 trucks could have been registered to new owners in the last few months? I think if you pulled up all 68-79 trucks (in case the vin was changed) you would have no more then 100. Plus, the dashboard VIN is hard to change, so the 1977 might have been resold as is!
...I had this happen to me with one of my motorcycles.
i had a screen printing shop with 2 friends many years ago. one day i find 2 motorcycles in the back of the shop by the back door. one of my partners said his brother needed to keep them there for a few weeks. both bikes were almost identical: one was complete and the other was just a frame. i called the brother and asked what the plans were with the bikes. he tells me he has to take all the parts off the complete bike and rebuild the other frame with all the parts. i asked him why. he tells me because the complete one is stolen, and the frame was bought at an auction. he has title for the frame, not the complete bike. i told him that in the next five minutes, both of these bikes would be out the back door and he had better pick them up. (the shop was in East San Jose ) he was not happy, my partner got mad at me, but i wasn't going down for an idiot.
my friends first car ( age 15, 6 years ago- 1970 chevelle 454. 4speed ) was stolen from storage a few years ago. thankfully the idiot driving it didnt realize the value of it, even though it needed paint, and just drove it around til he did one too many burnouts and snapped a u-joint. police towed it, BUT for weeks it sat in the lot without a phone call cause, well.... if its there for so long someone gets the rights to buy it for like pocket change...
he called and called around and finally a place said "yeah its been here for 4 weeks" "sorry we forgot to call you" B.S. !!!!! so what im getting at is... dont give up hope they may turn up some where.. maybe just missing a U-joint
guys
thanks for the words of encouragement. However, here in new jersey (especially those familiar with camden, new jersey), the liklihood of finding stolen property is slim to none. This is not to say that I will abandon my efforts to find them. It just makes me sick to think that this has happened. As for the one person who inquired about the trucks stolen, it was my 69 F250 camper special and (thank goodness it wasn't 'whitie') Instead, the 2nd truck was my 77 F250 4x4 project that had a HD44 front, 400 V8, C6 auto and complete fisher hydraulic snowplow setup. i was in the process of cutting the bed and cab off of that truck to replace it with a used 76 cab and a diamond plate flatbed that was given to me. Ah, the best of luck goes to the sleazeballs that took them. The funniest thing however, is that since they were taken, I just bought my own personal wrecker because I wanted to have a 'different' daily driver! So, even if I did find em, I could tow em right back to home but could I get so lucky??
Regards
Ben
Good luck with the wrecker. Just be careful when you find your missing trucks. Some thieves are very posessive when it comes to their "property," and can be very defensive when you're on their land.
> he tells me he has to take all the parts off the complete bike and rebuild the

I would have told him no problem and as soon as I got off the phone I would have phoned the police and told them the whole story. Your partner would have been even madder, but, the wronged party would have gotten the bike back. Plus, one more sleaze bag caught and off the street if only for a month.

i was young back then (22) and didn't think the way i do now. remember, we're talking East San Jose and my partner was mexican. i was scared enough as it was just doing what i did because i knew in my heart my partner would back me up.(he had a business to lose too). if had gotten the police involved, there's no telling what the retaliation would have been.
ok, no offense to any mexicans was implied so no need for a flame war.
