95 Explorer XLT - Tilting Problem

Hey all,

When my truck sits on flat pavement, there is a noticeable body tilt toward the drivers side. I measured the space in the wheelwells and I found that both the front and rear wheelwells on the driver side were 1.5 inches smaller than the spaces on the passenger side.

I was just wondering what could be causing this tilting problem.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Regards,

Evan

Normally its just sagging springs...

Your gas tank is on the drivers side.. and it will tend to lean that way as it gets older..

One no cost thing you can try it so swap the left and right rear springs... This will put the strong spring on the drivers side.. and should level out the truck...

If you were to do that with both front and rear springs you might end up with a lean to the passenger side (and need an alignment after than too)..

Dont want to start this again, cause theres tons of posts here on the subject, yes it could be springs, but its more likely worn out shocks..are they original??? scan down and/or use the archive search, lots to say about shocks here. Betcha thats it. I'm gonna unretire and become a shock salesman.

Sorry but shocks have no bearing on how the vehicle sits. The shocks just control the motion of the vehicle. The springs are what determines how it sits. The front end uses torsion bars which are adjustable. You might want to try tightening the low side or lossening the high side a bit at a time until it sits more level.

Normal shocks.. (e.g... Not air shocks) have no bearing on the ride height...

Air shocks or Air adjustable suspension is another animal...

If a vehicle's "Frame" is sitting lower on one side.. then it is springs or something is bent (suspension or frame).. It is also possible that the body mounts are bad, but then the frame wouldn't be sitting lower.. just the body..

But again... normal shocks don't affect ride height.

Evan,

The frame is pretty flexible on the Explorer, so a twisted body is probably the reason. A frame shop can twist the body back for you, but you'll notice that a lot of Explorers have the same rear-end sag, so it's probably not worth the cost. Ford did reinforce the frames on the 2002 and later Explorers, so you might want to pickup one of these after you get some miles on you current one. Good luck.
