First trip out

I finally took it out today for a little while! I posted a few pics in my galleries. My friend took video, but it is vhs, so I don't expect anyone to see it. It was great. I just did a little 4 wheeling to see how it would do. Phoenominal! What a blast! It is by far the most capable truck I have owned. It squeeks, rattles, and shakes, but it goes After over 3 years, 4x4 is here! The terrain wasn't all that challenging, but it was fun. I did find out a few things I will be changing, though. The inverted Y steering sucks. I will retrofit the 78-79 style. Also, I would like a hyd clutch, but the manual isn't THAT bad. Finally, I will be getting a bigger gas tank. 19 gal is for the birds. I am looking into retrofitting in a 33 gal out of a 78-79 bronco. They are hundreds cheaper than the 38 gal oversized replacement tanks. Anyway, just wanted to spout about how pleased I am! Ted

No sh**! But you manage to do pretty well on a student salary. Wish I had the time and the skill to fabricate like you guys do. That would make up for some of the expense, but oh well.

Expensive is a nice way to put it. I am a junkyard, friend-of-a-friend, classified ad hound. And I still have about $5500 in it as it sits right now. Oh, well. Everybody needs a hobby. For some people its smoking crack, for me its my ford

I just love this guy

In a manly way of course

Wait, that doesn't sound that good either...

Ted, so what all was involved in this project of yours?

I bought a 2wd F250 for $300. I have always wanted a 73-79 ford. Well, not too long after buying it and getting it going, I decided 4wd was the way to go. I bought a parts truck, and wanting to be difficult, decided to use F150 parts so I could retain the coil spring front end. Well, I got the front axle slung in and then had to move (about 1000 miles) so I stripped everything I could and loaded it in the back of the truck. At the time I still had the 2wd tranny in, and the clutch shuddered real bad from a bad rear main seal. Since my budget has been about $100 a month, I have just finally got it done mechanically. The further along it went, the less I paid for, and the more I rebuilt myself, or fabricated. In fact, I would have never considered doing the gears, but money said "give it a shot." I have been painting the body parts that I have, so it will probably be green before the end of summer. In all, there have been a thousand trials, and everything has been taken apart and put back together again about 3 times. So far, I have about $5500 in it, and that includes the 2 trucks, swampers, and all brand new parts for the mechanicals. What a blast! It is good to finally enjoy all your work. Ted
