Hey im new to the forums and i have a topic i need some answers to. I have 1997 Ford 350 diesel C/C and when you are idleing or barely moving along and you touch the brake or push the power window or lock or press anything electrical it will just die. Then you it starts right back up and runs good till it dies again. If you know anything on this please tell me. Tell me any of the parts i need or how to fix it. If you need anymore information just tell me.
I have a 95 F350 and it does something like that. It will die when I am stopping at a light or pulling into the drive way. I also have a problem when driving, the engine acts like it is shutting down for a split second. Then it goes right back to normal. If the alternator helps or if you've had this problem let me know. Thanks
T-Hanna, Your problem sounds more like the CPS going out. You can get all the info you could possibly need here. Do a search for CPS. They can be bought at an Internaltional dealer for a little more than half what Ford wants. Ford-$185+ International-$95+
I think I agree with 78fordman on this one. With the issue occuring when you touch electrical devices you should have the alternater tested first. Also make sure the wires are in good condition. I had a problem recently that was nothing more the coolant line resting on the wires. The bracket that holds it up above the alternater had bent and the tube was sitting on the wires. Since we both have 1997s, your setup should be the same as mine. If that fails you should check the CMP Sensor next.
I can't add to the solution but have a question. I learned the hard way that batteries must be up to par to start a PSD. If the altenator isn't charging enough to keep enough juice in the batteries to run the windows, pump, etc. at an idle, how can the truck be started in the first place? . .... Thanks..
hey i have the same problem with my 97 ford diesel as 97forddokey is having and i have changed my alternator several times and it does the same thing. what else do you think it is.
